Gimcheon University’s International Summer Session Program strictly follows North American academic standards and course evaluation systems. Each of the program’s courses are weighted as 3 credits—equivalent to the number of credits awarded in a standard semester-long course offered by North American and Western European universities.
Upon the successful completion of International Summer Session courses, Gimcheon University will issue an official transcript in English with the university seal on the envelope. The final grades earned from Gimcheon University will be counted directly in the students’ GPA. All summer 2020 official transcripts will be accredited and sent to the address provided by students in their online application. All credits earned by students during their summer program with Gimcheon University are guaranteed to transfer to their home university. Students may also apply for unofficial transcripts at any time.
Transcripts will be kept on file for a period of three years by the International Summer Session Program office. Please contact the office if an additional transcript is required; please note that students will be required to cover the extra transcript and mailing expenses.
Students are expected to strictly adhere to the university’s academic integrity rules; the same rules apply to work on essays, examinations and all other types of academic assessments. Any form of plagiarism, cheating, or misappropriation of materials will be considered a violation of academic integrity and will be punishable by the university.
Students should become familiar with the university’s summer school regulations regarding academic integrity. Assignments should reflect the knowledge acquired from lessons and should be completed in an independent fashion. All work or views of others that are referenced or considered in graded material must be cited from their original source, with no exceptions. Failing to specify the source of a direct or re-paraphrased excerpt will constitute plagiarism and be considered an academic offence.
Cheating is strictly prohibited and will not be tolerated by the university. Any act of cheating that is discovered will result in the student being disqualified from writing the exam. Students who commit serious academic offences and violate the university’s academic integrity rules will immediately receive an F (Fail) and will be subject to a full investigation as directed by the University Disciplinary Committee.
Students may apply for a transfer or withdrawal within 3 days of a course’s start date. If an application for withdrawal is submitted within 3 business days of a course’s start date, tuition fees will be refunded; otherwise, if submitted after a period of more than 3 business days, tuition fees will no longer be refundable. Any withdrawal that occurs during the first two weeks will be recorded as W (Withdrawn) on the student’s transcript. After this initial two-week period, the course will be recorded as F (Fail).
Course and assessment grading for students will follow the grading system and standards used by Gimcheon University. Should a student fail the course’s exam, grades will be recorded as F (Fail). All academic appeals and enquiry requests regarding grades on assessments can be directed by email to admission at admission@gimcheonsummer.org. Academic appeals may be made within a month of course completion. The Dean will enquire and communicate with relevant course instructors regarding the academic appeal in order to finalize a decision regarding the outcome of the application for an appeal. Students can expect to receive a final response within 5 business days; once a decision is finalized, the results of the enquiry will be recorded as the student’s new final grade and cannot be re-appealed.
